Privacy Policy

This site is run by Doventry Books, which decides how the information described here is used. You can reach us at info@doventry.com about anything on this page.

The book journey is public

Please read this part before you register a book. When you record a release, a catch, or a book you have kept, that event appears on a page anyone on the internet can read. The page shows the city, the date, any detail you added about the place, and any public note you wrote.

If you make a profile, the profile name you choose is published. It appears on the page of every book you release, and it links to a page of its own that gathers all of them: the cities those books have reached and the journeys between them. You can also take part without a profile, in which case your events read “Anonymous”. Your email address and home city are never shown publicly.

Public notes are free text, so please do not write anything there you would not want published, and please do not name other people in them — they have not agreed to appear. A private note goes to AnhTuấn alone and is never shown on the site.

What we collect, and why

Your profile. A profile name, and optionally your home city and email address. We use these to attribute your events on the journey, to reach you if you asked us to, and to let you manage your own preferences later.

Book events. The book, the city, the date, and anything you chose to write. We publish these as the book’s journey — that is the service you are using when you register a book.

Emails you asked for. If you ticked the box, we email you when a book you have touched moves, and separately, if you ticked that box, occasional updates about AnhTuấn’s work. Both rely on your consent, and you can withdraw either at any time without affecting the other. Journey updates are sent BCC’d, so your address is never shown to other recipients.

Messages you send us. Your name, email address and message, kept so we can reply and so a mail failure does not lose what you wrote.

Sponsorships. If you sponsor copies, your name and email address, used to acknowledge the sponsorship and — only if you asked — to tell you when a book you sponsored moves. Your name is shown publicly only if you asked for that.

Cookies

This site sets only the cookies it needs in order to work: one that keeps your place while you fill in a form, and one that protects those forms from being submitted by another site on your behalf. There is no analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind, so there is nothing here to opt into or out of. If that ever changes, we will ask you first.

Who else sees it

We do not sell your information and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing.

To place a city on the map we send the city name you typed to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim service, which is run by the OpenStreetMap Foundation. We send the place name only, never your name or email address.

We also use companies that host this website and deliver our email. They act on our instructions, see only what they need in order to do that work, and may not use it for anything else.

Where your information is held

This site and the database behind it are hosted in the United States, in Virginia, by Render. Our email is sent by Resend, also in the United States. Both act only on our instructions.

If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, that means your information is transferred outside those areas. For those transfers we rely on the standard contractual clauses approved for that purpose, which form part of our agreements with both providers, so your information keeps the same protection it would have had at home. If you would like a copy of those terms, write to info@doventry.com and we will send them to you.

How long we keep it

A book’s journey is meant to last, so events stay for as long as this site does. Everything that identifies you personally can be removed from them at any time on request — see below.

If you asked us to email you — about a book you have touched, or about AnhTuấn’s work — we keep your address for as long as you want those emails, and delete it when you stop them.

If you sponsored copies of a book, we keep your sponsorship record for as long as this site does. Who paid for a book to go out into the world is part of where that book came from, in the same way its journey is. If you would rather not be on that record, you can have your details removed from it at any time, and the sponsorship itself stays without your name on it.

Otherwise we do not keep things indefinitely. We delete messages sent through the contact form after three years, and an email address that is not attached to anything you asked for after three years.

Your choices, and how to use them

You do not need an account. Go to your preferences, enter your email address, and we will send you a link to your own settings. Emails you have signed up for, such as news that a book you have touched has moved, carry a one-click link to stop them. Our other emails are one-off replies to something you asked us for, so there is no list to leave.

From that page you can:

  • See what we hold about you, and get a copy of it
  • Correct anything that is wrong
  • Change what we email you, or stop it entirely
  • Have your information deleted

If you no longer want your name on the journey, deleting your information is how to remove it. Deleting removes your name, email address, home city and your preferences. Anything you wrote on a book’s page stays by default, because it is part of that book’s story rather than a detail about you, but the deletion page has a box you can tick to take your words down as well. The journeys themselves stay, because where each book travelled and when belongs to every reader on that trail and not only to you; your part in them will read “Anonymous”. For safety, deleting takes one extra step: we email you a link, and nothing is removed until you follow it.

If you would rather ask us directly, or you want something the page above cannot do, write to info@doventry.com and we will handle it.

Children

Books travel and anyone may find one, but this site is not intended for children. Please do not give us an email address or create a profile if you are under 16. If you believe a child has given us their details, write to us and we will remove them.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information you provide. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security, but we work to keep your information safe.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first — we would like the chance to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority in your country. In the United Kingdom that is the Information Commissioner’s Office; in the European Union it is the supervisory authority where you live.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make a significant change, we will post a notice on this page before it takes effect. Continued use of our website after that point constitutes acceptance of the change.
